yesterday was the annual memorial ceremony of 9/11 directly on ground zero. I managed to get there and was just stunned. I never felt something as intense as this before, even for a foreign guy, this place has a very unique and touching atmosphere. I was just speechless.
While I was wandering around I saw many photographers just holding their cameras nearly INTO THE FACE of some crying survivors or surviving dependents what actually made me very angry. Its like the cheapest social porn you can photograph, I was ashamed for people who work in the same profession as me. I saw this one guy walking through all the names and stopping every 2 meters to just touch one of the carved names, beginning to cry and saying “I miss you pal” - then he continues and after a few meters he repeated the same thing. It was such a moving event for me. After I while I somehow managed to make this picture. For me, this is what describes the whole atmosphere I was able to feel yesterday. the sadness and the hope. the power to continue. Thank you for that moment.
